For those of you who have been in band as a kid, you understand the epic problems that are experienced. Since Tasty Clean supports our school teams and bands, we thought we would share with the world just what goes on!! First and foremost, seems like band kids just don’t get enough credit!

Band Kids Don’t Get Enough Credit

Band kids are always playing music for different events or concerts, but sometimes they are left in the wake of football and team sports. There is a lot of hard work for those kids preparing their music to play for school events. Band kids are dedicated to playing music for others to listen to, so be sure you say thanks and give credit where credit it due.

The Band Room is a Mess

If you can find your way through the band room, god bless you. The band room is usually always a mess ESPECIALLY on a marching band game day or competition day. In high school, it’s a complete mess every time there is a game or competition - stands and chairs all over the room, total chaos. Concert band kids don’t see this too much but marching band kids always seem to somehow trash the band room. 😳

Being Jealous of First Chair

If you’re in concert band, you may understand this. Trombone 1 part (as opposed to Trombone 2 and 3) usually get a cool solo or higher notes. Kids want to be the star, right? So you will sometimes see jealousy of the first chair. First chair parts are awesome! When a band kid gets that golden ticket to play the first chair part, it’s the icing on their cake! So maybe there needs to be more 2nd and 3rd chair solos… 🤔

Things Every Band Kid Shouts That Drives You Nuts

“What measure are we on?”, “Oh there’s a repeat there my fault.”, “Oh, crap I missed the Coda!” “Trumpet players have the biggest ego.” (Whispers to the player next to you) “Hey, what measure are we on?” “I miss the band alumni!” “The band sucks now that he/she left.” “Once I graduate, this band will just go downhill.” “Can I play your instrument?” There are plenty more sayings only band people will understand. You can be assured that every band has plenty of sayings that only their band understands.

You Can’t Be Late

Ask any marching band kid about being late and they will probably say this, “To be early is to be on time, to be on time is to be late, and to be late is to be running.” Some band directors will make you run a lap because you’re late. But hey! If you’re late, why make the person run a lap and miss what’s happening? Then they’re even more late! That mean’s they will have to catch up even more to make sure that they know what’s going on. Regardless, don’t be late!

Leaving Your Band Director

The band director is more than just someone sitting in an office or waving his hands in front of a band, they are like second parents. There’s emotional connections that are deep. Like a second mom or dad, you’ll talk almost every day about life and what’s going on at home, discuss your problems, and get advice. They are on top of everything and very organized. So one day, thank your band director for all their hard work and also for dealing with you.

The Band Room is A Safe Haven

Sometimes if you want to skip class or need a break you can head to the band room until your teacher or someone kicks you out because you aren’t allowed to be in there alone. It’s also a place where only band students are allowed. If you can sneak in, you have a quiet place to be that can provide time alone to think and study, or just hang out.

It’s the life of being a band kid.
